The sacred art of Spiritual Companioning

The Centers for Christian Studies is sponsoring a new program in the Diocese for people who are experiencing a call to the ministry of spiritual companioning/direction.

The Sacred Art of Spiritual Companioning will be designed as a two-track program. One track is for those who have already discerned a call to this ministry.  The other is for people who want to explore more fully the area of spiritual companioning without doing the required course-work or practicum of working with directees.  Several of the Saturday programs will be open to all people in the diocese who want to deepen their spiritual lives or learn more about various themes in Christian spirituality.

The Certificate Program will be a two-year program that will combine 6 weekends (3 each year) with 10 Saturday classes (5 each year) that will be held in different location in the diocese. Topics will include such areas as: Spiritual Autobiography; Models of Spiritual Direction; Early Christian Mystics; Celtic and Contemplative Spirituality; Prayer; Spirituality and Personality Types; Holy Listening Skills; Discernment; Scripture and Spiritual Direction; Whole Life Integrity, Types of Spirituality; and Archetypes of Spiritual Direction.

This program will have an emphasis on the integration of heart, mind, body, and spirit.

The presenters for the two-year program will draw from the talent and richness of people in this diocese.

The cost for the program will be approximately $1,500 a year plus the cost of books.

There will an Overview Day offered on Saturday, April 25, from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. that will be an orientation and introduction to the program for those who have discerned the charism of spiritual companioning.

If you are interested in any of the programs above, please contact The Rev. Canon Charlotte D. Cleghorn at 828-274-2681 or by email.
