Nominations from the Vestry Nominating Committee

(Approved by the Vestry)

The Nominating Committee consisting of Dianne Russell, Marisa Pharr, Carol Anders, Jeff Konz, and Wade Saunders considered over forty possible candidates proposed to the Committee.  The suggestions of the Committee for nominations to the Vestry for Vestry nominees were submitted to the Vestry and the slate was unanimously approved.  Elections will be held at the Annual Meeting on January 30th, where nominations will also be accepted from the floor.  Below are the names of the candidates and some information about each.  Four Vestry positions will be filled at the election.

AK Benninghoffen

(Written by AK)  My husband Jeff and I have two children, Dottie (5) and Bert (2).  We moved here in October of 2005 from California where we were members of All Saints in Pasadena.  Our rector, Ed Bacon, had worked with Todd in Jackson, MS so, happily, we came straight to All Souls on his recommendation.  I taught the kindergarten Sunday School class for one year and currently I teach the Middle Schoolers.  Together, Jeff and I have directed the Epiphany service (Service) for the last couple of years.  I enjoy participating in the All Souls Book Group when time permits, and we love attending the Kanuga Family weekend.

Kay Mantiply-Clark

(Written by Kay) I am Kay Mantiply-Clark and have been at All Souls since 1991, when we moved to Asheville.  Robin Boylan graciously invited my husband Blair, our son, Macon and me to attend and when we visited at our first 9:00 am service we knew that we had found our church home.  We have continued to attend the 9:00 service and our “family” now includes my mother, Betty Mantiply, since she moved to Givens Estates and found that All Souls was the best fit for a church home for her as well.

I am a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. I work in Community Health Enhancement for Mission Hospital. I like to say that the two institutions I am most comfortable in are hospitals and churches. There are ways that being a healing intercessor at All Souls and a Nurse Practitioner to elders and others at work who bring their life challenges to our clinic are very similar.   Nurses are inherently “team” oriented.  I welcome the opportunity to be a member of the vestry “team” at All Souls.

Ken Dotson

Ken is a human resource officer at Volvo.  He and his wife, Melissa, have been active participants at All Souls for over five years.  They have two children.  Ken has been an active member of the Altar Guild for several years and has been Chairman of his Altar Guild week for most of that time. His is a familiar face at the annual Porch Sale and at Room in the Inn. He has been involved in the Youth Group and has a real interest in and talent for extending hospitality to members of our church family as well as visitors.

Brenda Lilly

(Written by Brenda) Brenda Lunsford Lilly is a native of Asheville, educated at St. Genevieve-of-the-Pines and the University of North Carolina-Greensboro where she received a BFA in Theatre.  Pursuing a career in the arts, Brenda spent twenty-seven years in Los Angeles working as a television writer and producer for a variety of ‘family- friendly’ programs.  Her work has been acknowledged with a Jewish Image Award, Humanitas Nomination, Parents Television Council Award and Viewers Voice Award.  She served eight years on the Board of Directors of The Writers Guild of America and six on the Council for the Writers Guild Foundation.  She also worked as a mentor for several literacy programs.  In 2005 Brenda moved back to Asheville with her husband, Michael, and continues to work as a writer, college professor and arts volunteer. Since joining the All Souls family, Brenda has worked with Room in the Inn, assisted Todd Donatelli with his sabbatical grant, and served as a volunteer for other parish programs and events.
