Kindermusik at the Cathedral of All Souls

Are you looking for one special thing to share with your child? One that will let you both:
Dance and move ~ Sing and rhyme ~ Play instruments ~ Imagine and explore ~ Laugh and learn!
You’ll find all of that and more each week in Kindermusik classes! Designed by experts in early childhood music and education, trusted by families for over 28 years, winner of several national parenting awards, Kindermusik is the world’s leading music and movement for young children.
Kindermusik introduces your child to the joy and adventure of music and then moves at his pace, affirming and building on his interests, ideas, and skills. From birth through age seven your child can grow and learn without pressure to perform, only encouragement to explore and discover. You’ll witness a developmental evolution in language skills, literacy, listening, problem solving, social skills, self-esteem and a love of music!
In Kindermusik you’ll find:

* Highly qualified teachers—degreed and certified
* Parents and children who love spending time together and making new friends

Away We Go!
Toddlers love to GO in Away We Go! Going is their gift, their license to venture out into the world and their means of retreating to the security of Dad or Mom.
With toddlers' desire to go comes an attraction to other things that go - people, animals, pull toys, tricycles, cars, planes, and the list goes on.
Away We Go! focuses on things that go, leading you in an exploration into the world of transportation. "What are things that go?" "How do they go?" "How do they sound when they go?" "Can I go like that?" "Can I make sounds like that?"
Singing, dancing, and other developmentally appropriate activities lead this transportation adventure to the discovery of trains, cars, buses, horses, wagons, airplanes, and boats. We explore hoops, balls, scarves, and a variety of classroom instruments.
Home materials include two Music and Movement books, home activity book, two CDs and 2 specially designed, child-safe harmonicas.
Kindermusik Imagine That

Toys I Make, Trips I Take
What's more exciting to a 3-or4-year-old than a new toy? How about an entire Toy Shop full of toys!
A remarkable toy shop, filled with boats, trains, balls, jack-in-the-box and many other toys is exactly what your child will enjoy in Toys I Make, Trips I Take.
While activities are centered on a child's pretend play and imagination, the unit firmly integrates the learning process by placing a strong musical emphasis on singing, steady beat and ensemble, as well as rhythm, rhythmic patterns, and accelerando.
Songs include such familiar ones as “A Sailor Went to Sea,” “Down By the Station,”: and “Ta Ra Boom De Ay,” as well as Chinese, Israeli, Spanish, and French folk songs. You’ll also enjoy some new jazzy arrangements and fiddle tunes.
The featured instrument is the drum. Your own Kindermusik drum and a variety of classroom drums will be prominent through listening and playing activities.
In addition to the specially designed drum, home materials include two all new literature books to facilitate language, listening, creative, and conversational skills, two CD’s, home activity book, and an interactive Toy Shop playset.
Kindermusik for the Young Child
Semester 2: for 4½ - 6 years (to start) Thursdays, 3:45 p.m.
Semester 4 : for 5 - 6½ years, Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m.
New students welcome!
Kindermusik for the Young Child is a sequential program with four 15-week semesters. The first year provides foundation for studying piano; the third and fourth are an introduction to string and wind instruments.
While each semester builds on the previous, there is sufficient review that new children may join in semesters two and three. Each semester continues to involve children in singing, listening, playing instruments, and moving expressively. All At Home materials include a folder, attendance stickers, ID stickers, home DC, and family songbook. In addition there is the one-time purchase for semester one, of carry-bag and glockenspiel. And in semester three, the dulcimer kit; semester four, the recorder. Semester 1 broadens the child’s musical experience through the introduction of the glockenspiel. Basic rhythmic and pitch notation are explored through movement, games, and manipulatives. Children also learn about percussion and brass instruments and are introduced to Mozart and some of his music, including The Magic Flute.
Semester 2 further develops the child’s instrument-playing skills while developing the greatest instrument of all—the voice! Concepts of piano/forte, crescendo/decrescendo, and legato/staccato are featured. Information about string and wind instruments is shared as well as an introduction to Beethoven. Peter and the Wolf provides an exciting introduction to the whole orchestra.
Pressure-free, developmentally appropriate concepts help effectively prepare children for formal music instruction after age seven.
Semester 3 introduces the dulcimer (a 2-string, corrugated cardboard instrument to assemble and decorate at home that has a remarkably fine sound.) Other concepts include call and response, improvisation, meter, further staff notation, and a touch of Tchaikovsky. Topics include the music of Appalachia, the sea, our Afro-American heritage, Native Americans, and the world of dance. Semester 4 brings the sounds of wind through the playing of the recorder! Many new musical terms are learned, as well as all the notes of the C scale.
