Docent Ministry
"DOCENT: (do’ sent) a lecturer who guides groups of people through historic buildings, museums and art galleries." -- Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary
All Souls docents welcome those visiting the Cathedral at times other than scheduled services or programs. The volunteer staff of approximately 25 people is a blend of young and old committed to hospitality and the welcome of all persons and groups.
All Souls docents maintain a presence at the Cathedral six days weekly, except for legal holidays, from April through December. They welcome and guide visitors – individuals, families, small groups, or larger, scheduled tours and invite them to enjoy All Souls special space; some visitors kneel in prayer, some light votive candles and stand or sit in silent reflection, some wander through the space. Many want to know about the Cathedral and docents answer questions or provide information about All Souls origins and history, its architecture and stained glass windows, its campus, and its continuing development. The docents are often able to provide information about area attractions and give directions.
There is no fee for docent services, nor is an entrance fee required for Cathedral visitors. However, donations placed in the basket are welcome and appreciated; all such donated funds are used for the Cathedral’s preservation.
