Diane Russell will lead our June Autumn Grace meeting in moving from “what if?” of fear to “what is”! She will help us practice mindfulness, or focusing on sensory experiences in the here and now. As we give up chaos of in our mind, we experience the beauty of the present moment and the gift of our senses and move spontaneously into gratitude in centering prayer. WLOS FOOD DRIVE - On June 12 ,WLOS sponsored a huge food drive to benefit Children First/CIS. We will continue with our donations on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th. Sun., but you might consider offering personal care items, cleaning supplies and baby needs on June 21, July 5 and July 19. Food donations are always appreciated, but at this time the need is greater for non food items. Thanks for your support.
Organ Concert - Canon Organist Kyle Ritter will present an organ at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, North Carolina, next Sunday, June 28, at 4 p.m. The concert will feature organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Josef Rheinberger, Margaret Sandresky, Maurice Duruflé, and Louis Vierne.
The Artist Abbey presents Reuniting with Wonder: A Morning Retreat with the Works of Mary Oliver”. Friday, July 10, 9:30-Noon, Owen Library. Retreat fee: $28. AmiciMusic returns to All Souls for another intimate chamber music concert on Thursday, August 6 at 7:30 p.m. This program, entitled “Around the World in 80 Minutes” features violinist Rachel Patrick, clarinetist Matthew Boyles, and pianist Daniel Weiser on a whirlwind musical trip to several countries, including Hungary, Romania, Italy, Russia, and France. Patrick and Boyles currently live in California, where they run their own chamber music series in Napa Valley. Cost is $20 for general admission and $15 for Church members. Free for children. When you need to reach the clergy for pastoral care - Timely and compassionate pastoral care for you and your family is very important to the clergy of All Souls. We would like you to know that if you or a family member have a pastoral care need during business hours you may reach a clergy member by calling the business office at 828-274-2681. Please tell the person you are speaking with that you are calling for pastoral care and that you need to speak to a clergy person. You will be asked if your need is urgent; please let them know it is if you have need to speak with or see a clergy person right away and they will contact the clergy person on call. If it is not urgent you will be directed to the clergy person’s voicemail. If your pastoral care need is after hours please call the clergy direct. We ask you to please call both clergy persons with your need so that we can insure a timely response. We know that it can be difficult to name your need as urgent, even when it is so, but please know that the staff and clergy value pastoral care that is accessible and thus we appreciate you reaching out to us when in urgent need. Where are the pew racks? We are in the process of repairing our original pew racks and there may be some Sundays where Prayer Books and Hymnals are found in the pews while the racks are being repaired. We appreciate your understanding while this work is in progress.
EYC - Give to our sister church in Cuba! All Souls EYC will be travelling to Matanzas, Cuba in July to visit the “Faithful to Jesus” community. This will be our third pilgrimage to visit our brothers and sisters in Christ. We are looking for donations as we travel to help support this Episcopal community and their worthwhile service to the families and children in their neighborhood. As we travel, we look for your support to help this community’s mission work. They need: Monetary donations to go towards purchasing windows in their church. We are hoping to raise $1200 to help support this purchase! Over the counter medicines and other toiletries. Single sized bed sheet sets. Any donation is welcome! Donation tables will be set up on the following dates between the 9:00 and 11:15 services: May 31, June 7, June 14. You can also drop off donations in the church office. Seeking a Way to Serve at All Souls? Visit the New Ministry Board. If you have been seeking a way to offer your gifts in ministry we have a new way for you to consider how to do so. The Ministry Board will be hanging on the church porch each Sunday and will have cards you can take which have the following on them: a basic introduction to the ministry, what kind of gifts/skills work best in that ministry, and who you can contact for further information.
Church of the Advocate: The Clothes Closet is still low on a number of items for men and women: shorts and cool tops, sneakers and sandals, white socks, and underwear. Our men also need T-shirts, hoodies, caps, and belts; our women also need long casual dresses and handbags, shoulder bags, etc. Sunglasses and reading glasses are most welcome, as are toiletries and (always) sleeping bags, blankets, and backpacks. Members of our homeless congregation are ever grateful for your donations.
